The Stranger and The Metamorphosis

November 23rd, 2003

I have been reading a lot for school lately, and now that were done with Shakespeare, we’re reading books that I actually enjoy. Recently I read The Metamorphosis and The Stranger. I thoroughly enjoyed both of these books, and recomend them to everyone and anyone.

The Metamorphosis is the story of what would happen if one day you or one of your family members turned into a giant insect. How would you deal with your family if you were a giant bug? How would your family treat you? The well written novel recounts Gregor’s transformation into a bug and his life thereafter.

The Stranger is another situational story. Suppose you had no feelings at all; completely stoic. How would you manage to survive and how would society treat you? What would happen to you if you accidentally broke the rules of society and did not care. Meursault, the existentialist in The Stranger, is the character detached with society. His story is remarkable.
