Obama and fake posters

April 15th, 2008

So today Michelle Obama came to visit Haverford, and I went to see her speak. After she recapped the course of the campaign she gave a nice speech where she addressed things like supposed elitism.

According to an email from the college no one was allowed to bring any signs, but they did hand out some signs that looked like they were brought from home. Mine said UNITY. I tried to make a makeshift sign from the heart with the ballpoint pen I had in my pocket, but to no avail. I would be interested in knowing the reasoning for not allowing people from bringing their own signs. It seems a little silly.

Barack Obama’s book, “The Audacity of Hope,” shows a appealing title. It has an idea of bravery mixed with confidence. There’s nothing Pollyanna regarding it. I will possibly not support everything he tells, but he’s our president, and for me, he creates trust. Which could do more for any country than any amount of backroom deals. Hope gives us energy, and energy sustains us through trying times. Boy, we’ve had them. I’m from West Texas, and I did not vote for Bush. When McCain ran against Obama, I used to be a citizen of Arizona, but I gave audacious hope a chance. The fight for progress and laying the foundations of prosperity is not over. I’ve seen the quips of those who don’t think Obama is capable of doing it. But step back a moment. Would anyone have all of us fail just to tarnish the star of an incumbent for whom they did not vote? Keeping our priorities straight, let’s work together with this president and build our future.
